PTA Newsletter – Week of 3/9

🗳️ Get Out and VOTE 🗳️

The special election is TODAY, March 10th from 3-8 PM (as a reminder, it will be an early school dismissal and there will be no aftercare), and you can find your polling place here.

  • If both questions pass, some of the cuts we can expect (even if the vote passes, the district must still ncut $4 million due to historical overspending):
    • Elimination of freshman teams.
    • Repurposing one school into a Pre-K center
    • Reducing one house at Glenfield Middle School
    • 1:1 Chromebooks will be eliminated in elementary schools
  • If both questions fail, some of the additional cuts we can also expect:
    • No field trips
    • No courtesy bussing (K-8 would only receive a bus at 2+ miles from school)
    • Closure of two schools (including repurposing one school into Pre-K school)
    • Reduction of arts & electives in elementary & middle school
    • Class minimums of 30 students in middle & high school
    • No paid clubs

We love this school. We love our teachers. And most of all, we love the kids who fill these hallways every day. Let’s do what we can to protect their education.

⛺ Literacy Night Success ⛺

Literacy Night was a HUGE success with so many families joining and participating in bingo, book bedazzling, flashlight reading and S’mores making! It was the perfect way to kick of National Literacy Month.

🏆 The Weston Awards 🏆

MFEE is calling for nominations for the 2026 Judy Weston Awards for Inspired Teaching! Now administered by MFEE, the awards were established by Josh and Judy Weston in 1991 to acknowledge and celebrate Montclair Public Schools teachers. The awards honor both master teachers and those on their way to achieving that status. Inspired teaching combines a range of skills across several core areas. Ultimately, it excites students to learn, helps them feel valued, and responds to their individual needs and strengths.

Last year, MFEE received more than 300 nominations, and 17 honorees won $2,000 each. All parents/guardians of current Montclair Public Schools students, current MPS students, and recent alumni, are encouraged to nominate teachers or a counselor. Nomination due by 4/12.
